There was so much heart in this collection by Penny Todd Rosina. The first few poems really grabbed me with their metaphor and feeling. I sensed a sweetness about her, and though I would not call the poet edgy, she was comforting. I think my favorite poem would have to be "Hard Blue." Rosina talks of being "pressed up against the hard blue of 4:00 a.m." as I have been many times before. She connects with the gentler side of human nature. I titled this review "Glass Roses" of poetry after her her poem, Glass Roses, because I think it best describes Rosina's style of tenderness and sparking hope. I would recommend this book to anyone who does not wish only to read words, but to participate in the depth and heart it took to write them.
As a result of reading Penny's porms, I too am suffering the pain of love lost, and the bliss of seduction.
If you seek lightweight and superficial poetry, then this is not the book for you. But if you want to be moved, transported, tossed in the waves of emotion in a superbly crafted vessle, grab a copy of Exit Wounds, and be forever changed.
This little book of poems reveals the joy and happiness of love, but then it reveals the pain and heartbreak when that love is left in loneliness that no one else can see.
These poems touched me. The writer pours out her feelings, vulnerabilities, losses, and joys. She paints emotions and experiences with a palate of words that sing, moan, or scream. I hope she produces more. Good stuff.
Love the poetry, quite moving. I could feel the emotions within the lines.
Great read as far as content, very meaningful and appropriate to a personal theme.
I would have liked to have numbered pages with the title as the header and I always like the books in my collection to have title and author on the outside spine for the sake of locating on my library shelves. These things would make the book produce more professional appearing. On the back of the book is a missed opportunity to have author photo and a bit of a biography, just a few sentences. This is another very key item missing because readers associate a writers work with their face when the two are presented together, and this is good for future publishing. Great photo on the cover and the text size chosen was very nice. Thank you Penny.
